Corel Photo-Paint: Objects/Drop Shadow

A drop shadow can easily be applied to any object in Photo-Paint using the dialogue box available from the Objects drop-down menu. The drop shadow is added as another layer/object which can be further edited as any normal object can. Perpective shadows are produced through the same dialogue box.

Photoshop

To create drop shadows in Photoshop you need to have the subject on a layer. This layer can then be duplicated, filled with black (or any other colour) and moved down the layer order behind the original subject. To this a guassian blur of around 1 or 2 pixels is applied. Left in its original position produces a darkening effect to the edges, highlighting the subject, or if moved creates the drop shadow. You can of course reduce the opacity of this shadow to suit.

The Eye Candy plugin set features a number of different effects filters. Included in the set are two separate filters one for drop shadows and one for perspective shadows Both filters giving quick and easy results to any layer/object. The set will work in both Photoshop and Photo-Paint.
