Corel Photo-Paint: Image/Adjust/Level Equalization
Adobe Photoshop: Image/Adjust/Levels
The level
equalization filter is a more controlled way of adjusting the tone and brightness of an image. The top slider controls adjust the dark and light areas, the bottom ones control the overall depth of black and highlight.
Most of the time you'll want to leave these lower sliders as they are, set to black and white. To auto equalize the correction, the filter reads the pixels in the image and makes an educated guess at the correction
needed for a 'perfect' picture. It doesn't always work, though it might set you on the right lines.
